North Carolina AAU Inducts Three Members into the Hall of Fame

Three members have been selected to the North Carolina AAU Hall of Fame.
NORTH CAROLINA (January 23, 2024) -- The North Carolina AAU has selected three members for the NCAAU Hall of Fame. Track athletes, basketball players, and high-flying gymnasts are heading into the hall to join an exclusive group of athletes in North Carolina AAU’s history.
Track star Vincent Crisp, Basketball coach Larry Ross, and gymnastics champion Allie Stern will be inducted into the NCAAU Hall of Fame on February 25 at Piper Glen Country Club in Charlotte.
Vincent Crisp was a six-time AAU All-American while competing with the Charlotte Heat Track Club. He excelled at North Mecklenburg High School and Texas Tech University where he earned five All-American titles. Vince represented Team USA at the U20 World Championships, participated in the U.S. Olympic Trials, and finished third in the 2023 USATF Championship in the 800 meters. Currently, Vincent coaches at Wakefield High School in Arlington, Virginia.
Larry Ross of Forest City, North Carolina, founded the Forest City Heat Basketball Club in 1998 and led the team until his passing in April of 2023. For over 25 years, Larry positively impacted the lives of hundreds of young people in his community, producing many college and high school players. He was employed by the city of Forest City and coached the girls’ basketball team at East Rutherford High School. Larry’s AAU teams achieved success in various age divisions, winning State Championships and National/World Championship medals. The Larry K. Ross Center, a recreation center named in his honor, stands as a testament to his legacy.
Allie Stern honed her talent at Charlotte’s Harris YMCA and Perfect Balance Training Center. She advanced to level 10 in high school, competing in AAU State and Regional Championships, where she secured multiple titles in vault, floor routine, and all-around categories. Allie earned a full scholarship to the University of Oklahoma, becoming a three-time All-American in the vault and a three-time NCAA Team National Champion. In 2022, Allie recorded a perfect 10.0 in the vault and was selected as the Big 12 Conference Athlete of the Week. Allie also served as a volunteer coach for the Special Olympics and a mentor for special needs students at Sooner Works, an integral program for students with developmental disabilities. Her commitment to excellence, sportsmanship, and philanthropy will continue to drive her to new heights.
The NCAAU Hall of Fame honors Athletes, Volunteers or Contributing Organizations that have made outstanding contributions to the AAU. Being inducted into the Hall is a rare feat that not many have accomplished. Since opening the Hall of Fame in 2004, including these three outstanding members, the total number of honorees is at 22 total.
