AAU SPOTLIGHT: LONGTIME AAU AND USA BASKETBALL BOARD MEMBER ROD SEAFORD

Rod Seaford, AAU Treasurer and NCAAU Boys Basketball Director, has served the AAU as a volunteer and a professional for 36 years. He was been inducted to both the AAU/USA and NCAAU Hall of Fame. He is currently the Chair of the National Board of Review and Special Counsel to the national organization. As an AAU coach for 30 seasons, his teams won three national championships, 11 state championships and nine national medals en route to a 764-362 lifetime record. After retiring from coaching in 2011, he has devoted his efforts to promoting and developing AAU sports in North Carolina and across the nation.

“AAU has a higher standard than many of our competitors,” Seaford said. “Of course, AAU offers the best insurance in youth markets and all adult members must go through a background check. Parents who choose AAU are assured a level of insurance, as well as a level of security because the coach has already been subject to a thorough background check.”

Rod recently ended 22 years of service on the USA Basketball Board of Directors, where he helped administer the U.S. Olympic and International basketball teams. As a member of the USA Basketball Board of Directors, Seaford – and others in the AAU national office – have represented youth sports at the highest level. He and James Parker, AAU Director of Sports, played a role in developing the USA Basketball Coaching Certification Program, which AAU will provide at no charge for 1,000 coaches this year. Additionally, Parker and Greg Turner, Senior Sport Manager, helped USA Basketball develop the Youth Basketball Guidelines.
